Storm in a Tea Cup

This Storm in a Tea Cup curiosity is a limited, hand crafted piece by John Lumbus. It is what is known as a timeless automata design, initially produced using second-hand bone china tea cups. Contemporary Dutch and English versions of it have been developed in collaboration with Laikingland and ceramics specialists, Royal Delft and The New English. Turn the handle and the golden boat rides the mechanical waves, above the stormy clouds periodically reveal a shining bolt of lightning

Esque Studio

Esque Studio’s booth at ICFF made me stop and just stare. Everyone in the booth was cleaning glass objects and curiosities from lights to terrariums to trophy heads. OB-J From the designers: Our concept is staged in the future but just barely into the future, 2015, Esque Studio and Number 1 Son, created a collection of items drawing inspiration and referencing the objects, from the past, and our very near future. Our goal was to create modern heirlooms, so exotic and unique, that it truly would be an object passed on to generations to come. Some of the themes that we are exploring in our collaboration: Juxtapositions of symbolism.

LUDD Pure Dreams Organic Cotton Baby Bedding

LUDD is a Swedish – Spanish company, based in Barcelona, creating exclusive, ethical, ecological, all-European made clothing for babies from 0 to 3 yrs old. LUDD’s newest line, Pure Dreams , is baby bedding, made using fair-trade 100% organic cotton, eco-friendly dye. I very much enjoy the minimalism of this, especially in contrast to the crazy, often character-decorated baby bedding on the market. The bedding consists of a pillowcase and quilt cover and comes in white, black and brown.

Chorong Lamp by Joongho Choi

Korean designer Joongho Choi has designed a reinterpretation of the traditional Korean chong-sa-chorong lighting. From the designer: This lighting device could be hanged onto fixed metal pole, or held by hand, but most importantly when it was hanged onto a long fixed pole called “deung rong deh,” it would vividly show the difference between the wall and the illumination itself, building up tensions in the atmosphere. That tension could be maximized by just hanging on to the supporting pole, and I have brought along the advantageous idea from the “chong-sa-chorong,” which is being able to move from place to another in various directions. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook
