100% Norway turned nine this year, making it only a year younger than the London Design Festival itself. To celebrate, it moved to a shiny new venue, Dray Walk Gallery, just around the corner from Tent . The light-filled space was a perfect backdrop for the cool understated Scandinavian design. It was designed by Amy Hunting and Oscar Narud; described by curator Henrietta Thompson as “two of the most innovative and capable young Norwegian designers in London.” These Turn lights by Caroline Olsson are made from made of birch and hand blown glass

A small section of 100% Design was dedicated to Emerging Brands. Here are my top five… Craig Foster’s Kurk Lamp was inspired by taking lamps apart and realizing how many unnecessary components and materials are used – the average was 30. He said: “The aim of Kurk was to use the minimum number of parts, without compromising on the personality and character of the product.” Launched at Clerkenwell Design Week in May, these handy shelves are designed by Arthur Analts as a place to empty your pockets when you come in the front door, making sure you don’t lose things like keys and change before you come to leave again

If there was a “man of the match” for the London Design Festival , I think David Irwin would be it – his name just seemed to pop up everywhere. He had his own stand within 100% Design’s Emerging Designers section and his products also featured on Deadgood’s stand and on the Designers In Residence stand at designjunction . Everywhere I turned – there he was, and with good reason.

The Electrolux Design Lab began in 2003 as an annual competition for all students of industrial design to develop future household appliance ideas. Celebrating their 10th year, Electrolux Design Lab asked the students to design concepts that reflect more of a sensory experience and that they did. Narrowed down from 1,200 entries, these ten top-notch designs were chosen as the finalists. Design Milk heads to Milan later this month for the final event in which one lucky design will win a six-month paid internship with Electrolux! Which one would you choose as the winner?

Kitara is a coffee table from Ukrainian-based designer and digital artist, Max Ptk . Sitting on an A-frame structure, the double layered table combines geometric lines with simple materials, all with a pop of bright yellow thrown in for good measure. Made with only a few parts that assemble easily, the sleek table mixes the natural wood with the painted to form the frame, both of which contrast well with the shiny white glass used for the tabletops.
