A modern and comfortable chair that folds up flat (less than 3/4″ thick!) in a matter of seconds? That’s crazy talk! The Folditure Leaf Chair , designed by architect Alexander Gendell, is perfect for small dwellers or people who want to have extra seating on hand. The folding chair is the ultimate in space saving in that it is super slim in design (when flat) and hangs up in a closet with its convenient hook. You hang it up like you would a coat hanger and the width of four chairs hanging is less than that of a winter coat! Cool, right? It’s made from a durable aluminum composite panel frame and stainless steel hinges and rivets.

Dutch design studio Michiel Cornelissen Ontwerp created Zesch , a line of interlocking coasters that when joined together, can form a trivet. Made from 3-ply sheets of bamboo, from which the shape is laser cut, they can be used alone or connected to create any pattern you happen to like. Don’t they almost look like they could fly through the air like a throwing star (minus the sharp blades of course)? Everyone has special possessions or treasures that they hold onto in hopes of eventually passing them down to others in the family. Nikki George Ferguson explores people’s emotional holds on certain mementos in what she calls The Heirloom . After doing research, it led her to ask, “Can you encourage people to make an attachment to objects?” In The Heirloom, the sentimental object is put on display in a glass jar for people to appreciate. There is a spot for people to then record their thoughts or memories of the object that can then be passed down for others of later generations to hear. It, in turn, becomes a meaningful piece and a symbol of family members that have passed.

Designer Konstantin Grcic created the Medici Chair for Italian manufacturer Mattiazzi . With both an indoor and an outdoor version available, the low, semi-reclined chair is all about the natural quality and beauty of the wood it’s made from. Built from wood slabs (sliced tree trunks) and full of geometric angles, the chair is made for comfort and relaxation. Outdoor version (first image also) A modern twist on the classic Adirondack chair, the Medici was “inspired by the material, the machinery, and of course, the skill and craftsmanship of the people” he worked with
