London based furniture designer Vanja Bazdulj creates experimental pieces for her Rough & Ready collection. We featured the first part of the collection last year and most recently her vases entitled Big Wonkys (greatest name ever). The Margarita Chair is the latest piece to join the innovative and imperfect group of furniture.

Breg Hanssen has designed a new cabinet for Vij5 using Meike Meijer’s NewspaperWood (wood planks made from old newspapers). I really don’t like purple, but I am strangely drawn to this shade of pinkish lavender (at least that’s the color it’s appearing to be on my computer). Jennifer Rabatel is a product designer from France whose collection of The Extra ORdinary Objects was a way for her to turn basic objects into new things. The result is four collections of items that are a bit quirky but most definitely creative and functional.

SaloneSatellite turned 15 this year, and in honor of the late great Steve Jobs, its theme was technology. Salone was the first design event on this scale to dedicate a section to young designers, although in this case, the criteria for “young” is under 35, so they are a little more established than the student designers seen at the likes of Greenhouse at the Stockholm Furniture Fair. I loved Gorgiera Pack by Macarena Pollock. Made of Yupo paper, this fruit packaging turns into a display stand with a simple twist. Equally ingenious is this light from Design Facility , which projects a focused A4 beam, casting into darkness anything that might distract you from the task at hand. Part of the Experience and Product Design Diploma at the Singapore Polytechnic Design School , Design Facility was created as a research facility where students can learn through live design projects.

These copper mirrors from London-based designer Michael Anastassiades are simply stunning. Copper covers a wooden frame in these geometric shapes that extend from the wall giving a far more beautiful look than your average mirror. They are minimal in design but with an edge. Each of the three styles comes in a limited edition of 10.

Currently studying to receive a Masters of Industrial Design at Pratt Institute, Matte Nyberg designed the Bravo Chair that is perfect for mid study breaks or even a quick nap. The red seat cushion and the angle of the seat back makes it comfortable to do your work or study for long periods of time. The curvy wood back has smartly placed matching cushion to rest your head on when you’re ready to lean back and take a breather.

Scale Living is a collection of free-form carpet tiles from the German company Vorwerk Carpet and designer Hadi Teherani . MESH_S (also in the top photo) The collection includes three shapes – CUT, BLOOM, and MESH_S. Besides coming in these clever shapes, they also come in leather and a brushed stainless steel finish (yes, you heard me right!), as well as a multitude of colors. So not only do you get to choose the shape, material, and color, you also get to choose a pattern and how you want to arrange them.

I feel like “ Stage Legs ” is the furniture equivalent of “Jazz hands.” These folded steel legs by Noddy Boffin are reminiscent of Queen Anne style legs, except with a modern, geometric shape. Stage Legs get their name from the idea of the negative space that it creates looks a little like drawn curtains on a stage. Made of powder-coated steel, these durable legs are available in many colors and can even be made with castors or an adjustable height. They’d make a fun addition to any ordinary piece of furniture.
