Quarch Atelier is a group of young designers in Milan, Italy that join their unique skill sets together to produce various projects. They designed the C’est Chouette lamp that might be the cutest thing we’ve ever seen. Inspired by fairy tales, the owl sits inside the outer globe as if to sit in a nest. The two-part fixture is made of white china and the owl part conceals the inner bulb when placed inside, helping to soften the light. If you prefer a brighter light, you can always take the adorable owl out and set it on the table next to it.

How can these pieces not make you happy? The chair, pouf, and rugs by MYK are made of fun and colorful pom-poms, otherwise known as the “bommel” in German, that are bound to make anyone feel like a kid again. Each pom-pom is made entirely by hand and with each object containing up to 1300 of them, they are definitely a labor of love. If you like the pom-pom look but all the color frightens you, you’re in luck.

Materials: KARLSTAD sofas (2), birch plywood, wood edging, walnut Description: Two of the things I love most in this world are modern design and cats. My cats have destroyed furniture in the past so when it was time for a new sofa I was determined to outwit them by finding a modern sofa they could not use as a scratching post.

The Swedish design company Front has created the Chameleon Cupboard for the Italian company Porro . The storage piece is considered a “magic volume” with its ability to change appearance whenever you open and close it, reminding me of the Jacob’s ladder toy. The unit is covered in fine leather that works as a hinge to allow you to change its look from black to white depending on your mood. The piece houses drawers and shelves made of pear wood, perfect for your clutter needs in the bedroom or living room.

The students from the Department of Interior Architecture at Rhode Island School of Design have created a collection entitled Prototyping the Domestic Environment currently being exhibited in Milan at Salone del Mobile 2012 . The five works are interactive and multi-functional with the focus on “the formal adaptation of utilitarian furniture pieces into domestic spatial components.” Each object is not only a functioning interior piece, but they also act as adjustable devices for play, i.e., “tactile or optical sensory exploration or kinetic transformation.” The designs are well thought out, as well as being aesthetically pleasing with their geometric attributes. Alvaro Catalán de Ocón design studio, based in Madrid, Spain, has created the geometric-inspired Rayuela stool that when grouped together creates an eye-catching visual effect. He began with the rhombus, a four-sided shape with endless possibilities. When you put three of them together you get a hexagon, which makes the perfect stool seat. Cover each rhombus in a different material and you have yourself a rockin’ tile-like design. Top image by Falkwyn de Goyeneche
