Next week, I’m having a few girlfriends over to decorate Christmas ornaments. We got together in the Fall to decorate pumpkins and we were all about the glitter. To get ready for next week, I’ve been looking for sparkling DIY ornaments that we can complete in one night while chatting and sipping on some wine.
Although we can easily take clear or colored ornaments and just cover them in glitter, I wanted something that forces us to be a bit more creative. Here’s what I’ve found so far: Tinsel Snowflakes, Snow-Capped Ornaments and No-Mess Glitter Ornaments.
I love the idea of the Tinsel Snowflakes because each of us can cut out whatever we please from cardboard and cover it in immense amounts of glitter. The snow capped ornament are perfect for when we’re feeling too lazy to cover the entire ornament in glitter – plus it gives a nice look! And the no-mess ornaments – I love how you get the glitter look without worrying about finding glitter all around the house from Christmas to the 4th of July. This DIY uses wood cleaner, but I also saw one that used hairspray on the inside of the ornament. I’m wondering if paint would work as well!
Do you have any glittery DIYs for us to use at our Ornament Party? Please share!

You may remember designer Christopher Duffy of London from his unique Swing Table. He’s back again with this interesting coffee table, one that creates a mystifying illusion!
The Flying Carpet Coffee Table is made from a digitally printed pattern onto steel that is mounted on hidden legs. Several color options are available, and there is even an option to create a rug pattern of your choice.
Can you imagine this awesome modern coffee table in your home? What a conversation piece it will be!
What do you think of this coffee table?

For the past two years, I’ve done a bright white fake tree with a variety of pinks, blues, and greens. Last year, my fiance dealt with it as it was our first Christmas living together. This year, he put his foot down and made me a get a real tree, which I’m glad he did. It’s the fattest tree I’ve ever seen. So fat – that I needed two 30 ft ribbons to wrap around from top to bottom!
Anyway, after we cut the tree down, we were standing in Walmart, gawking at ornaments, and made a quick decision to completely change our color scheme, rather than reusing the brightly colored ornaments from the past two years. Since he loves brown and I love gold, our decision was easy to make. Before I decorated the tree, I needed some inspiration – thus, the collage above. I miss my bright colors and their modern feel, but it was fun to switch things up this year. I’ll share how the tree came out later this week!
What color scheme did you decorate with this year?

I didn’t realize how expensive it can be to buy and decorate a Christmas tree until I went out shopping all weekned yesterday and put all of the receipts together at the end of the day! The only places I went were Target, Walmart and Home Depot, but somehow I managed to spend well over $125. We did cut down our own tree, which was much more expensive than the tree above, found at Lowes for 19.98!
Another reason I spent so much money is because we decided to change our color scheme this year from bright and colorful to brown and gold, so I purchased new ornaments at Walmart – 41 for about $9. To help others from spending too much on a tree as I did this weekend, I’ve put together a nice red, gold and green scheme for under $75!
Here’s what I put together:
1 – Tree Topper – $5
2 – Red Ribbon (to wrap around the tree) – $4.98
3 – 5 – 6ft Fresh Tree – $19.98
4 – 50 Ornaments – $15.00
5 – Tree Stand – $18.00
6 – Tree Skirt – $5
Grand Total: $67.98
I know I could go cheaper – but I love a matching, sparkling tree!
What decoration bargains have you found this season??

Although these are actually postcards on display, the look can definitely be recreated with photos as well. Or even art drawings from your kids or magazine clippings to hang as inspiration.
The images above are from a home tour on Apartment Therapy, and the postcard displayed are the collection of the homeowner’s, which likely have sentimental value. I’m loving this way of displaying a collection while adding color and texture to a room. And all they used to create it was some cable and hardware from the hardware store, according to AT.
As I mentioned above, I thought these were photos initially, and that’s what I use if I recreated this look. Personally, I love the feel of fun photos in a home, and I think this is a creative way to put them on display, rather than plain old frames scattered about the house.
What do you think? Do you love this look or could you do without it??

Half of the time, I gravitate towards sparkle and over the top items, but lately I’m finding that for the other half I’m leaning towards the simpler styles. Like these Seven Lamps. I would put those in my home in a heartbeat. In my living room, the guest room, on my desk – I could find a spot for them in no time.
Designed by Strand Design, only twelve of these modern lamps were made. The Seven Lamps are available in ash or oak finishes, made of hand-cut veneer. Their simple, solid structure will make a strong statement in any modern space.
What do you think of the Seven Lamp?

Now that we’re in between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the eating and the drinking and all of the festivities are officially underway. And if you travel over the holidays as I usually do, it is even worse because it’s more than just one day that involves all the food and drink. Plus, the planes and the public transport can really bring you down. Which is how I’m feeling now that I just got back from a trip full of wine and cheese and bread and sneezing and coughing passengers all around.
So whether you’re feeling the aftermath of all the food or the aftermath of all the travel, or both, we’ve got some delicious detoxing and cleansing soups to keep on your recipe radar. Not only am I coughing my face off, but my jeans feel tight so I need something full of warmth and healthy veggies.
Here’s what we’ve found:
Super Detox Broccoli Soup from RealEpicurean [image above]
Mulligatawny Detox Soup from Gluten-Free Goddess
Cleansing Ginger-Chicken Soup from Bon Appetit
Detox Soup from Chez Us
The Original Cabbage Soup Diet from Food.com
I included that Cabbage Soup Diet because I’ve heard people rave about it – I wouldn’t do it as a diet – I’d just like to try it!
What soups do you make to give yourself a boost?
