All Kinds of Beds

When I was a kid, all I ever wanted was a day bed. A day bed with a trundle so I had this fun setup when friends slept over. I begged and pleaded but never got one. Instead, my parents got me a double bed which was supposed to be much cooler and sophisticated. Which I guess it was, but it was boring! It wasn’t fun and different like those Barbie beds or a cool car bed that the boys got. Or even a canopy bed or a water bed!

Now that I’m older, the types of beds I’m drawn to are definitely different that before – and instead of Barbie beds I’m contemplating between velvet tufted or rod iron! And still, there are even more various bed styles out there.

You may have seen the images above in a long pin on Pinterest. They come from a string of bed styles that range from the sunken bed to the burger bed and there’s even one that looks like Cinderella’s carriage! There are just so many styles – some practical, some not so much.

Do you have a practical bed in your bedroom or is yours wild and crazy like a cheeseburger?

Product Pick: Wooden Light Bulb

Doesn’t this wooden light bulb make you want to switch out every light bulb in your house? I know that’s what I want to do!

Designed by Fukusada Design, the Wooden Light Bulb is made using a Japanese technique called “Rokuro.” An LED light is wrapped in a wooden shell and chipped until a minimum thickness is achieved. The top of the light bulb is made of aluminium.

I don’t know too much about lighting, but I’m guessing that the LED light would be like those Christmas lights that don’t get hot – so that the wood wouldn’t catch on fire!

What do you think of the Wooden Light Bulb? Would you put this in your home?

Painted Drawers: Love this Look?

When I say painted drawers, I don’t mean painted on the exterior – I mean painted on the interior! I guess I should have elaborated in the title, but it doesn’t really have a nice ring to it!

Anyway, today I’m looking at two different styles of painted drawers – on the inside of the actual drawer and on the exterior of the actual drawer – not the front or drawer panel. Does that make sense? The photos above may help to make it more clear.

In the top left and bottom right photos, you can see the exterior of the actual drawers are painted, while in the top right and bottom left photos, the interior of the drawers are painted. Both ways offer a whimsical surprise that will make anyone who opens the drawer smile.

What do you think – do you love this look? Where in your home would you implement the look of painted drawers??

Wood Floors: Would You Rather?

It’s been a known fact in our house that our little Maltese doggie has been spitefully peeing on the sole carpet in our house every now and again. Several times, we didn’t catch it soon enough and the pee had already seeped through the rug to the wood floors underneath the carpet. And no, stupid us, we did not put a rug pad underneath! So, needless to say, we had a few areas of ruined hardwood floors. Fortunately, my fiance has a friend in the business so he called him over last week to see what he could do for us.

We were left with two options – we could have him cut out the damaged areas and replace those with new flooring, or we could restain the entire room, in a darker finish so that the stains would blend in. As we were searching for different wood floor finishes, I thought – this is the perfect idea for a blog post! Because, as we perused a million different shades of flooring, I just couldn’t decide what I would rather. I won’t tell you what we ended up deciding – I’ll save that for another post!

So, tell me – which would you rather? Light wood floors, dark wood floors, white wood floors – or no wood floors!?

Sweet Succulents

While working with a florist for my wedding next year, I came across a beautiful bouquet that she had done for a recent bride. What made it so beautiful and different was a few neatly placed succulents within the bouquet. It really looked amazing. So, that got me thinking about all of the different ways there to arrange succulents throughout your home, rather than just sticking a few in pots. Which looks great, don’t get me wrong – but it’s always fun to switch things up a bit, right?

And while a terra cotta pot looks nice, a mercury glass one looks even better! You can go vertical with your succulents and make a lovely wreath or a wall art display with them. Or, for the girly girl – stick those succulents in a high heeled planter.

I’ve been thinking about adding some succulents to my home, so maybe I’ll have to try one of these fun ways. What about you – what interesting ways have you seen succulents on display?

Product Pick: Crystal Candleholders

I found these candleholders on MocoLoco, and unfortunately they’re just a preview of what will be showcased by Gaia & Gino at Maison & Objet in Paris this month. I say unfortunately because I want to see more!

These beautiful candleholders are Double Herkimer Candleholders, by Arik Levy, which are made from the Herkimer crystal, a clear quartz found in Herkimer County, NY. I didn’t even know such a crystal existed, did you?

Either way, I’ll be keeping my eyes out for these candleholders – and the rest of the collections from Gaia & Gino, which includes new pieces from Karim Rashid and more. What do you think of these Herkimer Candleholders?

Blinded By The Light

Technically, I’m not being blinded by any light. But I would like to be!

Blinds are something that I constantly struggle with. I open all of them every morning and close them every night. Sometimes, I find a few of them closed during the day [by my handsome fiance!] and it makes me crazy! But what makes me crazier is that when I open a few of them, half of the panel still stays closed. Yeah, I know – I can’t figure it out either!

Actually, I can. When we first moved in, we kept the cheaper plastic blinds that the previous owners had left us. Our intention was to replace them later down the road, and I think that time is growing nearer. At least I hope it is!

The problem is – what type of blinds do we go with? We definitely need made to measure blinds, because our windows are all different shapes and sizes, which I guess everyone’s are! But still – do we go with wood blinds or the roller kind? There are just so many to choose from!

What about you – do you have a blind dilemma in your home? How do you plan or how have you solved it?
