Etsy Round-up: For The Kitchen

The holidays are quickly approaching and it’s never too early to start thinking about potential gifts. And since you’ll most likely be attending a few parties, today’s Etsy round-up includes several items that will be great for your hostess with the mostest.

Personally, I love the idea of giving and receiving something for the kitchen, because a fun pair of dish gloves or funky oven mitts aren’t something people typically buy for themselves. What kitchen knick-knacks are on your wish list this holiday season?

Weekly Links: 11/4/11

Happy Friday!! How are you spending the first lovely weekend of November? Will it be even lovelier due to the hour we’ll gain from Daylight Savings Time?

Here are this week’s Weekly Six links to check out, as collaged above!

1) Wouldn’t this Cookies and Cream Oreo Bark be a great dessert item to bring to parties this holiday season?

2) I keep going back to check out these colorful Bfrend bracelets – they’ll make great gifts! (For others and for myself!)

3) The lights lining the floor and going up the wall to the ceiling in this image are so festive – I definitely need to do something like this in my home for the holidays!

4) Here’s another fun thing to do with Christmas lights – poke them through canvas for a bright display.

5) The Holiday Gift Guide by Emily Henderson will not only give you great gift ideas, but also several fun DIYs for gift-giving and decorating.

6) How cool is this Inlamp by Sai Design Studio? Instead of typical lamps that stay on display whether on or off, the Inlamp has its own special cabinet for when not in use.

What fabulous things have you seen this week? We’d love for you to share them!

Thanksgiving Dinner: How Do You Spend Yours?

Yesterday’s Groupon in the NYC/North Jersey area was for a Thanksgiving meal cooked by the chef at Bloomingdale’s. We use Groupon for restaurants on a regular basis, so why not save on Thanksgiving with it?

But what this really made me think about is what the majority of people do for Thanksgiving. I’ve never cooked or hosted a Thanksgiving, but I can imagine it’s not the easiest meal, especially with a lot of guests. For that reason, I’m sure there’s a lot of people that either order in or dine out at a restaurant for Thanksgiving. Having Thanksgiving at a restaurant is a great way to get large families together that wouldn’t necessarily fit into someone’s house!

So, how do you spend Thanksgiving – with a home-cooked meal, with take-out, or at a restaurant?

Fool Your Friends with Wild Wallpaper

Yesterday, the design blog Trendir covered the awesome wallpaper above. Yes! That’s wallpaper – isn’t it fun? In the photos, the paper really looks like real leather, real panels and real bookshelves! I’m curious to see what they look like in person…

These wallpapers are a great idea for a temporary living space, or an apartment where you don’t have much control over the physical decor. They can really be used in any home…but do you think you’d miss the actual texture that the wood panelling provides?

What I would pay to see is a guest reaching for one of those books!

Anyway, the wallpaper is made by Mineheart, a UK based company founded in 2010. In addition to the wild wallpapers shown here, there are several others on their website that you’ve got to check out.

Another question I have is: how would you decorate with these wallpapers? Here’s what I’m thinking:

How about this tufted leather wallpaper with a tufted leather sofa – too much?!

Recipe Radar: Comfort Foods

Does cold weather have you craving cheesy, flaky, hearty comforting meals – or is it just me? Last night, I made mac and cheese, the night before that beef stew. I can’t get enough comfort food!

What is comfort food to you? As I mentioned above, to me it’s anything cheesy or creamy, or with flaky biscuits or bread. Or hearty – like noodles, beef, potatoes.

So, for this recipe radar, all of the recipes to keep on your radar are what I consider to me comfort foods. What would you add?

We’ve got: Chicken Fried Chicken / Stove Top Mac & Cheese / Cowboy Casserole / Chicken Pot Pie / Chicken and Dumplings / Beef Stroganoff

Happy Halloween Weekend! Ready for your weekly dose of six different links to check out on the web?!

Let’s talk pumpkins first. Will you be carving any pumpkins this weekend? I would love for mine to look like one of these amazing pumpkins, but I know that’s wishful thinking!

Since we’re expecting a nor’easter on the East Coast, it’s the perfect weekend to cozy up on the couch while a pot of Homemade Stew cooks in the stove.

It’s a shame the weather will be bad, or else I would be planning a trip to NYC to check out C Wonder – have you heard of this new shop? It’s website should be debuting soon for those that aren’t in the area.

If you’re in the mood for a new app on the iPhone, iPad, etc – check out the Amazing Type-Writer to take you back in time.

Would you hang cement light fixtures anywhere in your home? These pendant lights have a unique, modern look.

Finally, add some sparkle to your weekend (if there isn’t any in your costume!) with these metal bowls by Grace Tan. They’re laser cut to be malleable – so you can manipulate them into whatever shape suits you.

Have you read anything you want to share this week? Hope you have a fun Halloween weekend!

Would You Rather: One Painted Wall or Four?

If you absolutely had to choose to paint your bedroom in dark grey (or any other dark color), would you rather one dark gray accent wall?Or would you rather all four walls be painted dark grey?

If your bedroom does not have a good amount of natural light, then perhaps its better to stick with just one accent wall. But if you do have some good light, I think dark walls can be brightened with crisp whites and colorful accessories, bedding and rugs.

In the image with the accent wall, the light bounces off the white walls and the bed against the grey enhances the dramatic effect. If the grey wall stood alone without the bed, do you think the effect would be as grand? In the bedroom with all four walls painted grey, there is a lot of light, but there are also a lot of white and colorful accessories, including a bold orange headboard and bedframe.

So, tell us – which of these looks would you rather in your bedroom? How would you do it differently?

So Pinteresting: Halloween Party Ideas

so-pin-halloweenparty

With Halloween just a few days away, there’s still time to plan an awesome party. Plus, there’s always Pinterest to turn to for awesome recipes and decoration ideas. So today we’ve pulled together four Pinterest-ing pins that will surely spark some inspiration for your Halloween shindig.

The first pin includes a ton of fun, free printables to add detail to your party – from soda labels to adornments for cupcakes or other finger foods.

How cute is the second pin with a pumpkin made of veggies and dip? While this would be a really great way to get kids to eat their veggies, I think its also cute and fun for adults as well. And quite easy to make !

The third pin looks absolutely disgusting, but sounds like it will taste quite delicious. It’s a Brain Hemorrhage shot, and its made using peach schnapps, Bailey’s and grenadine.

The fourth pin has even more ideas for throwing a Halloween party – such as planning ahead with music and drink recipes.

Are you throwing a Halloween party this year?

From TAble to TAbles

TAble-elda-bellone

I’m sure there are many people out there living alone or with one or two other people that don’t need a huge,  huge dining table, yet they need the option for one when entertaining. Isn’t that what leaves are for? Are those table inserts still even called leaves? Or a leaf? Ah, whatever!

The point of the matter is that this adorable little TAble is actually two TAbles in one. Perfect for small spaces and those that only require a small table for everyday use, the TAble has a way more stylish and more modern way to extend itself than with those wooden leaf extension things. I love it!

TAble is designed by Elda Bellone Studio.
