DIY to Try: Gilded Lace Champagne Glass

Due to the lack of Internet from the storm this week, I’m forgoing the Weekly Six and opting for a fun DIY instead. I’ll catch up on all my reading by next week, I promise!!

If you’re spending some time home this weekend, this is a fun DIY that you can put together quickly and then go back to finish the various layers in between activities or chores. All you need is some champagne glasses – or even wine glasses would look great too – doilies, and ModPodge. To view the tutorial for this fun DIY, check out Fabric Paper Glue.

I love the glamorous look that these doilies add to the glasses, don’t you?

Another Ceramic Candlestick by Marie Dessuant for Another Country

Another Ceramic Candlestick designed by Marie Dessuant for the British furniture brand Another Country  was launched during the London Design Festival . Each candlestick, which is made of a ceramic lid on a turned oak base, sits atop a box that can be used for storage or keeping belongings safe. I love that they resemble pots and pans, but also are reminiscent of old-timey candleholders. CalmSpace Cat Nap Pod Makes Afternoon Siestas Much Easier

Something I can always get down with is a nap, and when something comes out to make my naps better, I’m jumping for joy (actually I’m curling up in the fetal position ready to go to sleep). Furniture company Haworth partnered with designer Marie-Virginie Berbet to create the nap capsule of my dreams called CalmSpace . The module is made for an office where workers can lay down on the upholstered mattress and choose the time they’d like to spend napping – 10 to 20 minutes. To help the napper sleep, the capsule plays preset lights and sounds that make it easy to fall asleep and just as easy to wake up

Product Pick: Branch Coat Hanger

Today we’re back in action with a product pick that is both stylish and functional. Can’t go wrong with a product like that!

What we have here is the Branch Coat Hanger by Authentics. Made using FSC certified Oak wood, the Branch was designed as a way to utilize empty wall space by giving people a place to throw their clothes from the day, rather than hanging them over the back of a chair or tossing them to the floor when undressing at night.

It can also be used in a foyer or hallway to greet guests with a contemporary and convenient place to hang their coats, hats, scarves, etc.

What do you think of the Branch Coat Hanger? Do you have a place to hang this stylish item?

Vederlicht Hanging Lamp by Daniel Hulsbergen

Based on a childhood love of model glider planes, Daniel Hulsbergen created the Vederlicht (Featherlight) out of the same materials as the planes and using the same technique. Not being able to afford the costly hobby as a kid fueled his fascination with it to this day, so turning it into lighting only seemed natural. Just like the glider’s wings, the light is constructed out of Balsawood and Oracover (a heat shrink film), making it extremely lightweight.

Concrete Objects by 22

Sean Yu and Yi-ting Cheng began 22™ in 2005 with a desire to create items in both metal and concrete. Inspired by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the duo set out to rethink ways to use such an industrial material like concrete to make everyday items like clocks and pens. The 4th Dimension Table Clock has a concrete structure where the face spirals around and down like a staircase. The hands create shadows as them move around the tiered down face

Fabric Lamps by jefdesigns

One of the people who I’ve posted about the longest is probably Joe from jefdesigns – I’ve long been a fan of his nature-inspired products. His new fabric lamps seem like a logical next step. After years of making lamps and separately making textiles and patterns, he’s married these two in a series of new drum pendant lights.

Alvo Stool by urbancase

I was thrilled when I heard that urbancase had released a new piece of furniture. The Alvo stool was designed by Brian Beck and he also hand-makes every single stool himself using vintage German block planes and a simple bench lathe; no computers necessary – just good, old fashioned muscle.
