Materials: Ikea Rast 3 Drawer Chest, Behr High Gloss Paint in Sugar Plum, 3 Campaign Style Drawer Pulls, 3 Packages of 2″ Brass Flat Corners, Paint Brush, Tube of Elmer’s Wood Filler Max, Sanding Sponge, Drill Description: I love campaign furniture but the antique pieces are so hard to come by! I decided to hack the Ikea Rast, giving it the campaign style with a modern, bright-colored twist! Follow the steps below to make your own. Step One: Assemble Rast chest according to Ikea’s instructions (do not install drawer pull knobs, you won’t be using them) Step Two: Fill in the pre-drilled holes (on the drawers) with wood filler. Once filler dries, sand it down so it’s nice and smooth Step Three: Paint the entire chest (I had to use 3 coats) and let it dry completely Step Four: Install corner brackets using drill (one on each corner of each drawer) Step Five: Install drawer pulls using drill (you will have to drill new holes with your 1/4″ bit) See more of the Rast campaign chest . ~ Louisa, Madison, AL

We have blah and boring concrete floors in our basement that are yearning for a thick coat [or two] of gorgeous glossy paint.
I’m loving the looks of these gray and white concrete floors above. Each room has a nice brightness with the choice of wall colors in combination with the gloss of the painted concrete.
I’m obviously loving this look – what about you? Would you go for glossy painted concrete floors? Matte? Or something completely different?

It’s been a while since our first “Inspired by…” post in which designer Brad Ascalon created a concept bag inspired by the Ultrabook. The reason I started this Inspired by… series was to give designers the opportunity to explore new materials and push the boundaries of what’s possible as well as give us a peek into the design process. But, most of all, it’s just plain fun. And what’s more fun than tearing off strips of blue tape after you’ve painted a wall, forming a giant tape ball indicative of all your hard work

Dutch designer Robert Bronwasser has created perhaps the most happy watering can I’ve ever seen, or at least the best looking. Designed for the Dutch company Goods , the Spring watering can has two openings – a wide one to fill the can up with water and a narrow spout for watering your plants. Spring purposefully has a skinny neck for you to hold onto while watering. It holds more than two liters and is available in four colors. Happy watering! Italian company Kubedesign enlisted Roberto Giacomucci to design its latest collection called Cardboard Architectures. The entire series is constructed of cardboard, and yet doesn’t look cheap or flimsy at all, in fact it is designed to explore the properties of cardboard as being strong and sturdy. Akira is a workstation shaped like a house. Clorinda is an armchair made to be very comfortable, yet durable too. It is coated with a rigid cover or waterproof film

Inspired by a childhood trip to Yellowstone National Park, Daniel MacDonald invented a way to create these orb-like sculptures that he calls shio , which happens to be the Japanese word for salt. The orbs are created in a studio where purified salt is poured over forms made by MacDonald. The salt water flows and slowly builds up over time and the crystals begin to form. occulus (first image also) Each piece is unique and takes about a week to fully form. He’s developed several different “species” or types of shio pieces and each one lights up

French object design student Elodie Elsenberger created the Land(e)scape Desk as a 2nd year thesis project and it’s quite impressive. The desk uses no screws or glue, only electrical cord that is woven through the wood to hold it together. Instead of having a bunch of different desk accessories piled up, the desk has a uniform look with the woven cord creating all of the storage and organizational items you may need. I especially love the caged lamp. I love how the desktop looks almost like a topographical map.
