In The Mood for Some Mid-Century Mod

Today I’m feeling a mid-century modern kinda vibe. I’m not quite sure, but it may or may not be because of the Matthew Broderick / Ferris Bueller commerical from the Super Bowl. You know, because of Cameron’s house!

I’m drawn to mid-century design that focuses more on the modern, not the type of MCM decor that is frozen in time. Which is why I’m loving the mid-century home shown above.

Located in Salt Lake City, it has all of my dream MCM qualities: classic architecture with updated materials and appliances. Can’t you just see yourself entertaining with dinner and pool parties all the time at this home? Plus, it has the perfect pool house that can be your own private cabana. Head over to Move Modern to check out the rest of the home – it’s a must-see!

What are your feelings on mid-century modern decor?

Faktum/Nexus "String" Kitchen

Materials: Faktum/Nexus Kitchen Description: I built a nice 'String' kitchen using Ikea Faktum kitchen cabinets with Nexus brown doors/fronts/cover panels and “String” side panels. “String-shelf” is a Swedish popular shelf from the 1950s… My idea was to create a kitchen that felt more like a piece of furniture since we lived in a really small apartment and the living room was the same room.

Seung-Yong Song

Korean artist and designer Seung-Yong Song , who studied and worked in France but is currently based in Seoul, recently sent us these images of his work. Part furniture, part art object, part art installation, they’re quite beautiful, as are the words that describes the concept for each piece. Object-E: “The unique name of things limit the range of product’s shape and function, but above all, the fact that there exists stereotyped function in accordance with each unique name suppresses my imagination. I am not willing to deny or destroy the identity based on the stereotype, but I only reinterpret the uses I need in my own design language.” Object-A: “I am looking in every nook and cranny of the room to find hidden spaces

Lunch: Bring or Buy?

Lately, I’ve been purchasing a salad similar to this one here at a local cafe by my office for $6 a day. I’ve been telling myself that it’s nice to support a local business, but then of course, I’m think “hello you’ve got to support yourself too!” Sometimes, after I cook dinner and clean up the kitchen, the last thing I want to do is make myself lunch. But on the other hand, really – how hard is it to throw a salad together in a tupperware?

And that entire paragraph is a conversation I have with myself approximately four times a week. So, I’m just wondering about everyone else out there – are you in a similar situation? I can assume that the situation differs a bit for those that work at home, but then perhaps buying lunch out can be seen as an excuse to get out of the house.  Hmm..

Well, whatever your situation may be – do you bring/make your lunch most of the time or do you just buy it? I’d love to know!

Tyndall Table by Thom Fougere

Winnipeg-based designer  Thom Fougere recently completed the Tyndall Table , which debuted in January at IDS12 in Toronto, Canada. At just over 11 inches high, the low-profile table appears to be floating on its steel structure. The top is made of Tyndall stone that resembles the local topography and is quarried in the Winnipeg area. The natural texture comes from marine creatures burrowing into the stone, which gives it nice dimension. The stone is then planed to a relatively smooth state allowing for its unusual character to remain
