TamTam Lamp
November 22nd, 2011 — Design

The TamTam is a new lamp designed by Fabien Dumas inspired by a roster of interesting imagery: a juicy bunch of grapes; Nick Mason’s drums from Pink Floyd; the constellation of Perseus. Archetypal lampshades are geometrically arranged to invoke a feeling of organized chaos. There’s a large central shade in lacquered aluminum, to which various smaller satellite shades are attached, all with opalescent, methacrylate diffusers over the open end to soften the light. The smaller shades can be rotated through 350 degrees using a swivel mechanism.

Would You Rather: Chandelier or Drum?
November 21st, 2011 — Designer Stuff
If you had to absolutely choose between one or the other – which would you rather – a chandelier or a drum? And where would you put it?
Chandeliers come in so many different varieties – some ginormous, some smaller, some colored, some clear and sparkly. The one thing I would never choose in a chandelier is lights that look like big fake candles. It just takes away from the glamour effect of a chandelier, if you ask me. Also, I know many kinds of lights are referred to as chandeliers, but for me, I think of beautiful chandeliers in the image above when I think of chandeliers – not anything beaded or crazy like that. Now I’m not saying those aren’t considered chandeliers – just not what immediately comes to mind, ya feel?!?!
So what about drum lights? I have one hanging about my kitchen table and I love it. It’s just a plain linen, not as dramatic as the black shade shown above. But, sometimes you just can’t beat the clean, modern look that a drum shade brings into a room.
So, if push came to shove, I would rather have a chandelier. How about you??

TV Stand with Floating DVD Platform
November 21st, 2011 — Furniture, Uncategorized

Materials: Lack TV bench & Lack Side Table Description: We had a lack TV bench which held a 36″ CRT tv and it didn’t hold up well, bowing the top piece of the bench. The Lack bench was also damaged by water when the basement leaked. When we moved and switched to an LED tv I wanted a sleek stand to go with it. I really enjoy furniture which appears to float, so I wanted to create something out of some pieces I had lying around (I didn’t know Ikeahackers existed at that point)

Discover the possibilities …
November 20th, 2011 — Design, Furniture, Uncategorized

Materials: Chest of drawer – TARVA – not yet in the range Description: Three weeks ago I attended an IKEA contest in which I should design a chest of drawers, which is not yet on the market. It is made … of pine wood and so I could worked on it very well. With all of our furniture in white, I decided to use a lot of color this time and to incorporate many styles: The brightness of colors from the Orient, adorable handbatiked fabrics from Bali, Dot Paintings from Australia, the Meditation of mandalas and just a little inspiration from nature. And because I love to play Papillon (it's Ludo played with Rummy Cards) with my children, I've milled this in the form of a mandala at the top of the dresser
