The table clock

Materials: Ikea Bravur wall clock, small old round table, black lacquer, adhesive, saw, brush Description: I became fascinated with the “DIY” madness. For a long time I wasn’t interested in the Do It Yourself attitude, I never thought something could be done using old furniture or knick-knacks. I was only interested in the things of design

Friday Five with Michael Graves

Sometimes I book a Friday Five and I feel like I need to end the column and go out like Seinfeld – on a high note. This is one of those Friday Fives… but don’t stick a fork in me just yet… Michael Graves , FAIA, has been in the forefront of architecture and design since he founded his practice in 1964. His two firms — Michael Graves & Associates, the architecture and interior design practices, and Michael Graves Design Group, the product design and graphic design practices — have designed over 350 buildings worldwide and over 2,000 products including both building components such as lighting, hardware, bath and kitchen products, and a wide variety of consumer products for home, office and personal use (including his awesome collection for Target ). Michael Graves and the firms have received over 200 awards for design excellence, and Graves has received 13 honorary doctorates.

Previously on Ikeahackers: Work on the Walls

Wall cubes : Inspired by wall boxes she saw at a high end furniture store, Jenni hacks her own version. Aren’t those chairs cute? Wallpaper art : I still drool whenever I see these wallpapers by Swedish designer Hanna Werning. So beautiful, framing them is just the thing to do. Media storage with sliding doors : This one is a classic, which led to many more versions of the Lack sliding door media unit.

Doggy Futon

Materials: 1 Lack side table + 1 Poang footstool cushion + glue Description: Our little flat is almost 100% Ikea furnished (you know, budget issues!). Recently we adopted a dog and we liked the idea of extending the Ikea-style also to his doghouse. Unfortunately, there is no pet furniture in the Ikea catalog, so we created this easy-but-handy Ikea Hack! Material: – 1 LACK side table – 1 POANG footstool cushion – vinyl glue Procedure: 1) Flip the table’s top upside down, so that you can work on the lower face. 2) Spread some glue (we used vinyl glue) on the legs’ sides 3) Place the legs sideways in the centre of the top creating a square (see picture) 4) Turn the table and place the cushion on it: your doggy-futon is ready to be enjoyed! ~ Arianna and Giampaolo, Italy

UF/O by Fabien Franzen

Belgian designer Fabien Franzen developed Archetypes , a brand through which he could release products and objects developed based on the “model” object, or archetype. His UF/O collection is based on the UFO archetype – a flying saucer of sorts. This series of objects is stackable and functional as vases and bowls, yet beautiful and sculptural perfect for display. Plantable by JAILmake

Oh my gosh I can’t take the awesomeness of this Plantable table from JAILmake . Plantable married the idea of growing and eating food into one product. The legs act as trestles and the feet as planters. The top is a solid oak surface for preparation and eating. JAILmake will be exhibiting at Designersblock during the London Design Festival
