By far the most interesting event I attended at ICFF was Designglut’s Uncomfortable Conversations . The idea was inspired by the following quote: A person’s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.” – Timothy Ferriss Designers Kegan Fisher and Liz Kinnmark of Designglut curated 16 pieces that were designed to start “uncomfortable but important conversations.” Here are some of the pieces that were in the exhibit: Pre-Handshake Handshake Device by Dominic Wilcox Night Terror by Chrissy Conant It’s Not You, It’s Me / It’s Not Me, It’s You by Ana Linares Chi-Merica by Paul Loebach In Case by Materious Uncomfortable Typographic Situations by MSLK Kevin Carpet Bench by Will Robison of Subports (yup, really a dude rolled up in a carpet.) I had to round up my favorite press pieces that I received from ICFF. First the biz cards: There were two business cards that immediately made me say “wow”! First, PIE Studio’s card folds into a piece of pie. Clever, right? Even cooler is their brochure, which is also shaped like a slice of pie, and unfolds into an entire pie! Yum. Best Press Pieces from ICFF

I am a huge fan of Balanced Design , but I was especially pleased with the new pieces that they showed at ICFF. The new peacock design is certainly my favorite, but they have new bird’s feet and leaf patterns as well. While at ICFF, I met Mark Kinsley, who is the owner of Riveli Shelving . Kinsley, a product designer, struggled with space issues in his small Chicago studio, so he developed a space-saving shelving unit for his own personal use. ICFF 2010 Post Roundup

Being described as a “sub-aquatic version of the Charles Eames Lounge Chair” the Lobster Chair sure is getting plenty of attention. Well deserved in my opinion, this chair is definitely interesting, while also being something I would proudly put in my home.
