We have a clue about Furniture

This isn’t new, but I recently came upon it for the first time and felt it was something worth sharing.  Called the Paper Table, this table is actually made of recycled paper and features an oil finish.

This table is the work of Matt Gagnon, a graduate of the architecture school at Cornell University who now has his own studio in Brooklyn. Gagnon experiments with proportional relationships and the interaction between people and the space that surrounds them. He likes to push the limits of each medium, which in this case results in quite a stunning table. I wouldn’t have thought paper, especially recycled paper, could be pushed that far. I guess that’s why Gagnon is the artist and not me! See more of his work here. 

This stool, created by London-based designer Mathias Hahn comes in cream, graphite grey and grass green. You can stack the stools on top of each other or just use them individually as stools or side tables. Kiwa is Cho Hyung Suk’s university graduation project, inspired by traditional Korean-style house, Han-ok, which has a beautiful arrangement of tiles. You can see how his bench is reminiscent of a Korean tile roof, in not only the shape, but also it reinterprets the structure as a new language of furniture.

Yoav Avinoam’s graduation project is Shavings — furniture created from sawdust. By using sawdust waste from the Wood industry, as a response to the way we look at our usage and exploitation of materials in modern culture. The sawdust (taken from different kinds of woods) is being pressed with resin into a mold that already contains all of the object parts, the opportunity was exploring new ways of integration between the legs of the furniture and the sawdust through expansion of the joints, this and the way the sawdust crumbles toward the edges creates a new material esthetics to once destined to be waste material. Yoav also gives us a little “ Deconstruction ” with some process photos, after the jump.
