London Design Festival 2012: Brompton Design District

Brompton Design District boasts a thriving community of independent creative businesses who come together for events like London Design Festival and offer some of the grass roots events that the festival wouldn’t be complete without. Squint have taken up residence at 1 North Terrace in the heart of Brompton and created what they describe as their “flagship emporium.” It was the explosion of color and pattern that you can always rely on founder Lisa Whatmough for. 4 Cromwell Place was a new venue for 2012; a 19th century double-fronted townhouse curated by Jane Withers. The first exhibition on entering the building was Vera Chapter Two , an interdisciplinary installation orchestrated by Kirsty Minns & Érika Muller, in which designers responded to the photo above and then creative writers responded to the resulting designs

Expedit Meets Enetri

Materials: 2 Expedit 2×4s, 1 Expedit 2×2, 5 Vika Amon Table Tops, 8 Capita Legs, 1 Enetri (discontinued) Description: So my room was getting a bit messy and cluttered and I planned on redoing my computer area. After browsing for some ideas, I ran into ikeahackers.net and my creative ideas came to life! So I browsed Craigslist for some used Ikea furniture. Got all my Expedits for dirt cheap and bought the $6 white Vika Amon table tops. The Expedits from Craigslist were pretty scratched up but I was going to repaint them anyways. So here is the before picture of my room: After painting the Expedits, I placed the Vika Amon table tops on top of the Expedits: After that I cut down my Enetri to the size that I wanted, I installed the Capita legs: Once that was in place

Bocci 28 in Color

Bocci has introduced a huge range of color in its 28 series collection . Creative Director Omer Arbel’s intent behind 28 was to design a system that produces form, rather than designing form itself. A magnificent success, the pendants are designed to cluster in hexagonal shapes, which nestle into one another. Adding color introduces a grand range of infinite possibilities, from clustering by similar hues to creating amazing multicolor installations

Friday Five with Bobby Berk

Bobby Berk grew up on a small farm in MO, but his heart always belonged to New York City. He began his career in home fashion with Restoration Hardware. His path continued as the Director of Stores for Portico and was then promoted to be the vision of the brand as Creative Director. It was no surprise when Bobby launched his own brand, Bobby Berk Home online in 2006 and, shortly after, his first showroom in the Soho district of New York City followed by his second showroom in the Design District of Miami, Florida.

Flos Wall Piercing Lights

The Flos Soft Architecture Wall Piercing lights caught my eye on Stylepark and I can only imagine the possibilities of this type of lamp. You can create some very artistic and creative patterns using a grouping of these simple ring lights. Also on the Soft Arch site and worth noting is the Boobs light : “we can shape your wildest dreams.” © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

USIN-e at The Gallery

USIN-e , Amaury Poudray and Rémi Bouhaniche, will show works this Spring at The Gallery in Brussels. Amaury and Rémi both attended the Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design in Saint Etienne, France, and after a period of study in the United States and India respectively, decided to start a common creative activity — USIN-e. Their work has been featured at numerous exhibits and now they’ve designed a new collection, PRELUDE, especially for this show at The Gallery. PRELUDE consists of 5 rattan items that will be produced in limited edition as well as other works that they’ve created. Sketch of a PRELUDE piece: About PRELUDE, the designers say, “What we aim at is creating a link between things apparently in contrast: persons, techniques, materials
