Frederick McSwain and François Chambard: Off The Grid

NYC designers Frederick McSwain and François Chambard (of UM Project ) created an outdoors-inspired exhibition at Gallery R’Pure for New York Design Week called Off The Grid . Inspired by camping, flashlights, lanterns, and easy outdoor furniture solutions like using crates as chairs, the designers created what look to be more luxurious and creative alternatives to the traditional camping gear. Perhaps this is gear we might use when camping on a rooftop in NYC or as our only furniture in an effort to try and escape the real world? Descriptions below are from the designers.

East, Meet West! Popup and Exhibition at Bobby Berk Home

During New York Design Week , I curated an exhibition and popup shop at Bobby Berk Home full of West Coast designer, makers and artists. Entitled East, Meet West! , the idea behind this exhibition is to introduce more West Coast design not only to New Yorkers, but to the country’s biggest modern design audience in town for NYCxDesign, beyond what they’ll see on the trade show floor. As you walk around the city during Design Week to parties and exhibitions, you often see a lot of the same names, or, at least an overwhelming majority of designers who are based in New York

Dear Disaster by Jenny Ekdahl

One of my favorite pieces in the D3 Design Talents exhibition at IMM Cologne was Dear Disaster by Jenny Ekdahl . Dear Disaster was Jenny’s graduation project from the Lund School of Industrial Design in Sweden. Inspired by recent global events, she says: “While natural disasters are perceived as terrible occurrences, natural forces can also be viewed as awe-inspiring and magnificent.” The aim of the project was to facilitate a process of recovery after natural disasters, to help the user regain their trust in nature

D-vision has organized a group exhibition during Salone in Milan called Soft Comfort that focuses on pieces that invite you to sit on them with the promise of comfort. A BOOV Although what is comfortable might differ from person to person, overall, we can all agree that comfort makes us feel at home, and at rest. Certain elements are directly related to comfort such as sitting angle, seat softness and shape.
