Fulo presented their Bits bench at the Stockholm Furniture Fair . Made of small birch wood triangles, the seat appears to be tough and hard, but Fulo says it is soft. Unfortunately, we were not there to test it out, but we’ll take their word for it. Materials: Billy, Besta, Tombo doors, Grundtal rails, brackets and hinges from hardware store Description: In our 1903 apartment we were facing the typical problem of an ugly surface-mounted fuse box that we wanted to hide. As the ceiling is quite high, we couldn’t find a piece furniture tall enough. So we took a Billy bookcase (79 1/2″, 202 cm tall) and fixed it to the wall with metal brackets. The fuse box is now hidden behind a Tombo door.

Exhibited during the Stockholm Design Festival , Note Design Studio ‘s newest collection Marginal Notes. Pictured above in the middle are the High Tide/Low Tide shelves. The designers explain “The tidal range is the vertical difference between the high tide and the succeeding low tide. Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun and the rotation of the Earth. The shelves in these two floating pieces of furniture mark the tidal ranges of the Strait of Magellan, the calmer Pacific versus the more dramatic Atlantic.” More from the designers below.

Matthias Pleissnig is a furniture designer based out of Philiadelphia, PA. Pleissnig has studied sculpture at the Kansas City Art Institute, furniture design at the Rhode Island School of Design and wood/art at the University of Wisconsin.
Using steam bent white oak wood, Matthias Pleissnig has created several pieces of unique seating arrangements with beautiful curves and flow. Shown above is the Amada Bench and below is Spill, Pleissnig’s most recent work which can be found at the Alexandria Science Center in NYC. The third photo is of the Rivulet, which was made in 2009.

Edoma is designed by h220430 to represent the permafrost currently in Siberia. Within the permafrost, Edoma is a layer of ice that is no less that 40 meters thick, which is approximately 131 feet.
h220430’s website states that the permafrost has begun to melt in recent years. A high-concentrate methane has been found within the permafrost, specifically in Edoma, which is 1000x the methane that exists within the Earth’s atmosphere. Once the Edoma begins melting, there are concerns that global warming will be a far more serious issue than it is now.
To create awareness of this issue and to broaden perspective towards our global environment, h220430 created the Edoma light to represent the Edoma ice. The Edoma light is an incandescent lamp that is slowly disappearing, with a faint light shining through the methane.
h220430 is a Japanese design team specializing in lighting and furniture. Many of their products are environmentally related, with interesting stories behind them.
