Custom bar from IKEA kitchen cabinets

Materials: PERFEKT ABSTRAKT cabinets, plywood, glue, IKEA hardware Description: We have an a walk through space from our dining room to our family room that we use as a bar. Since we moved in early this year, we just threw a collection of random furniture pieces in the space. After not finding anything that fit the space perfectly with the look we wanted, we decided on hacking some kitchen cabinets for this purpose

Mr. T: another iMac standing desk

Materials: EXPEDIT Shelving unit 4×4 (white), 2x LACK Wall shelf 30×26cm (white), 79×39x1.8cm beech work plate, 50×24x25.cm beech work plate, 2 CAPITA console stainless steel, some EXPEDIT gear Description: Recently I began to feel unhappy with my current home office environment. At work I am sitting all day in front of my iMac and when I get home I really didn't feel like sitting anymore. So I started looking for alternative ways of working and thought about my last job where we had tables to move up and down in case we felt more like standing at work.

Large Abstract Wall Art

I’m really in the mood for a HUGE piece of abstract art. By HUGE I mean like 6 feet by 6 feet. Or maybe 5 ft by 7 ft. And it doesn’t have to be fancy. But it has to big. (There are so many things I could add to this paragraph but this is NOT that type of blog!!)

So, anyway.

The first black and white artwork is from one of Valentino’s homes – I’m not sure which. But I’d love to go to bed every night and wake up to that every morning.

The second piece is by Nicole Cohen of Sketch42. It’s seriously awesome and so is she; I definitely recommend that you check out her blog if you aren’t already familiar. PLUS, she paints walls that are kinda like that fabulous piece in Valentino’s home.

The next image has not one but two pieces of large wall art that I’d take in a heartbeat. Designed by Brown Davis Interiors, I’m loving the brightness of both pieces combined with those gorgeous Mongolian lamb chairs. While both pieces are simple, their large size and vibrant color really adds the perfect pop. And I feel like I could probably make one of these two myself (you know, to hold me over until I can actually afford a nice piece made by someone else.)

Are you as into these pieces as I am?

CMYK Lamp By Dennis Parren

Dutch designer Dennis Parren created the CMYK Lamp for his graduation show from Design Academy Eindhoven. The innovative design uses LED technology to project cyan, magenta, and yellow onto the ceiling and walls. The lamp is shaped like a graphic outline and casts 3D shadows which he discovered only by accident. The experimental lamp sets out to display the mystery of  light and what it can be. Currently on display in the Transversality Exhibition at Galerie BSL in Paris through February 11, 2012.

The Senescent Desk by Love Hultén

Gothenburg, Sweden-based designer Love Hultén sent me a project called The Senescent Desk, a project about natural change without maintenance and a story about interaction. The Senescent Desk is basically a self-sufficient gardening system based on a water-tank, mist makers, two fans, a growth substrate material made from recycled plastic and a digital time. The idea is that over time, the vegetation will flourish and (hopefully) eventually “attack” the artifact without the need of human interaction. In this design, untreated wood is also used so that the wood itself will change over time as a reaction to its environment
