Spanish lighting company Almerich puts the fun in functional with their Yo-Yo lamps that resemble (you guessed it) a child’s yo-yo. Available as a floor or hanging lamp, the red fabric-covered cable is close to 33 feet and rolls up between the two diffusers just like the string of a yo-yo. I love this piece of furniture called Pl(a)ywood by German designer Silvia Knüppel . Made of 38 layers of plywood boards, loosely stacked, the shape of Pl(a)ywood is determined by what you decide to use it for. Shift different sections out to create pedestals for items and store items in the recessed areas. Stainless steel appliances are one thing, but stainless steel appliances and cabinets? I don’t know if I could do it…could you?
With a stainless steel fridge, microwave, stove, toaster and coffee pot, I don’t think I could deal with anymore stainless steel. Not because of the look but because of the obsessive cleaning that takes over me when I see one smudge on any of the above items. Once the stainless steel polish is out, I’m a mad woman running around to make sure every inch of stainless is completely clean and doesn’t have that extra residue that some polishes (or maybe just the one I use?) leave.
While I love the look of all stainless steel kitchens, mentally I couldn’t handle it! And when I have kids? Forget it!
So, how about you – do you love this look or not so much?

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and a relaxing weekend. Are you sticking to any resolutions you’ve made?
I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions or reflections, but there is one tradition (if you can call it that) that I keep with myself every year – entering the HGTV Dream Home contest everyday from the beginning of the New Year until it ends in February. I always thought the contest began on January 1st, but I see this year it started on the 29th. (Oops, maybe being late to the contest can be part of my little tradition!)
My mom got me started on this about five years ago. It’s fun to think about what you would change about the dream home and if you would keep it or sell it, or what. So, while I should be going to the gym with the rest of the world, I’m going to exercise my stellar abilities at filling out the entry form instead!
What about you? Are there any unique, silly, or simple resolutions, traditions, etc that you have for the New Year?
