Contrast Mug by Royal Copenhagen

Believe it or not, these jaunty, no handle Contrast Mugs are from the classic Danish china company, Royal Copenhagen . Designed by H.C. Giedde, the porcelain pieces, which have pleasing ridges like a ramekin, come sheathed in a brightly colored silicone sleeve that helps prevents slippage and protects fingers from the heat. The company actually gifted one to us (forest green, thank you very much) on Design Milk’s recent press trip to Copenhagen, and we’ve been using it daily. The verdict

Denmark by Design Exhibit at the Danish Design Center

While in Copenhagen last year, we had a chance to stop off at the Danish Design Center to see Denmark by Design . The exhibit shows the development in Danish design from 1945 to 2010, with iconic pieces popular in the homes, workplaces and public arena from the time it was introduced to today. The exhibit starts out with Kay Bojesen’s wooden toy monkey, an assortment of LEGO bricks, and Arne Jacobsen’s City Hall clock, designed in 1956. The aluminum coffee and water jugs were designed by Erik Herlow in 1955. See the aqua nesting bowls in the foreground?

The Modern Quilt Guild

Knitting had its moment (and it’s still going on), so perhaps it’s time to shine a spotlight on quilters. While the craft may evoke images of grannies in spectacles equipped with needles in a barn (sewing bee anyone?), there’s an alternative to patchwork classics. After posting a few modern quilters last year, we stumbled upon a decidedly hip Flickr group of crafters called The Modern Quilt Guild , and pulled out half a dozen favorites.

Music Producing Desk

Materials: VIKA AMON, VIKA CURRY, VIKA ANNEFORS, EKBY JARPEN, BILLY Description: I wanted to build a desk to produce music and still have enough space to work and do everyday stuff. In the beginning I planned to build everything on my own, but soon I realized that it must be cheaper and easier to combine some IKEA furniture. There were some requirements I had, that didn't make the selection that easy: – It should look awesome (of course) – It should match my existing furniture like a Malm bed

Yo-Yo Lamps by Almerich

Spanish lighting company Almerich puts the fun in functional with their Yo-Yo lamps that resemble (you guessed it) a child’s yo-yo. Available as a floor or hanging lamp, the red fabric-covered cable is close to 33 feet and rolls up between the two diffusers just like the string of a yo-yo.
