Martinique Wallpaper: Love this Look?

If you’ve ever been to the Beverly Hills Hotel, then surely you’ve seen this fancy Martinique wallpaper in person. Designed in 1942 by Don Loper, specifically for the hotel, this wallpaper has become an iconic design.

The big bold banana leaves can be found in upholsteries, shoes, purses, you name it. As far as wallpaper goes, the leafy pattern makes a dramatic effect. I can see it in kitschy Californian homes, funky restaurants and boutiques.

What are your thoughts on martinique wallpaper? Would you put it in your home?

Kitchen Remodeling

Do you ever dream of completely gutting your kitchen and replacing it with something totally different? Even though I love my kitchen, I sometimes do! Mainly because my kitchen is more on the transitional side than it is completely modern. My parent’s kitchen at their flat in London is completely contemporary, like the images above.

I love the clean lines of modern kitchens, and the glossy finishes of the cabinets. How about that purple and white kitchen above? So chic!

What about you – do you dream of remodeling your kitchen on a whim? Have you ever followed through?

The kitchens shown above are kitchens by Wren, which is an awesome company that offers tons of kitchen solutions – from cabinets to appliances – and even a 3D kitchen designer to help you find or vision – or just play around with designs!

Could You Work Here?

The space above is from the Microsoft Headquarters in Vienna, designed by Innocad Architects. While the entire space is beautiful and modern [you should definitely check it out] this particular room caught my eye.

The floor, the ceiling, the walls – they’re all lined with soft wood! Which obviously I know you can see yourself, but it is just such an interesting look. Since this is the HQ for Microsoft, I’m guessing this space is a conference room or meeting room of some sort, although it could pass for a dining room.

Assuming it is a conference room – the question is: could you work in this room? Even though I love it, I think it would make me dizzy! I think I would prefer it as a gorgeous walk-in closet – how about you??

Mid-Century Modern Humor

I came across this funny cartoon a few weeks ago on Apartment Therapy and thought I’d save it for a fun Friday where I wouldn’t be able to get a Weekly Six post out. [For two weeks now. Sorry about that!]

Anyway, since we talk a lot about mid-century homes and cover a lot of modern decor, in which MCM paved the way for, I thought it would be an interesting post. While I assume the cartoon is implying that mid-century modern decor should be retired, I’m thinking I wouldn’t mind one of those La-z-boy Womb Chairs!

What are your thoughts on mid-century modern decor and this cartoon? Should it be retired or would you rather retire on one of these pieces?

Have a great first weekend of June!

Etsy Roundup: Outdoor Pillows

Continuing with the outdoor kick, today we’ve got an Etsy roundup of outdoor pillows. There are so many fun patterns and colors that I don’t know how I’d choose! I did just put in a charcoal gray outdoor rug, so perhaps something to coordinate with that would add some colorful coziness to our dining chairs, since we tend to spend a lot of time lounging on them!

Do you have any outdoor pillows in your backyard? How do you display them?

Whaletone

When you hear the words Whaletone, I’m sure the last thing you think of seeing is a fabulously modern piano. In awesomely bright colors, nonetheless.

As the design of this piano is inspired by the way a whale arches its body when thrusting against waves, it also has a SuperNATURAL Piano Technology which ensures the sound of a classic grand piano. You can learn more about the design of the Whaletone here.

Three of the vivid Whaletones are pictured above, but there are several more available at their site. Of course, I’m loving the pink – which would you choose?

Ideal Outdoor Space

Are you sick of hearing about outdoor furniture, outdoor spaces or anything outdoor related on this blog? I hope not! I’m guessing since we’re just near the beginning of Summer there can’t be many people sick of hanging out outside yet. Or ever, but that’s another story!

Anyway, after all the talk of outdoor spaces and string lights and BBQs, I decided to create a moodboard for my own ideal space. I mentioned sometime last week that I would love to have enough space for dining, lounging and sunning, but since realistically I only have room for dining and sunning, I’ve only included those here. We do have a pool, but it certainly isn’t as pretty as the one I’ve included – but I’m not complaining!

Now that I’ve shared my ideal outdoor space – tell me what’s one thing you dream of for yours?

Happy Memorial Day!

It’s Memorial Day and we’ve got beautiful outdoor spaces on our minds. Hopefully you’re reading this before or after a lovely weekend in a similar space as the ones above!

As you can tell from last week’s post – I’m smitten with outdoor string lights, so of course they had to make an appearance in these at least one of these spaces. Maybe one day I’ll have a space that has enough room for a cozy outdoor sofa and dining set and lounge chairs. And a pool would be nice, too!

Well, enough dreaming – that’s what a holiday will do to you! What would your dream outdoor space look like?
