Recent RISD graduate Erica Sellers came up with a unique project to pursue her senior year that explored soundwaves. Sellers created a way to represent soundwaves in three-dimensional form in this chair and table and the results are most impressive. Beginning with a song ( “Symphonia IX” by Grimes *) and using music software, Sellers took the curves and oscillations that were originally in two-dimensional form and converted them into three-dimensional form using the modeling software Rhino 5.0. The digital 3D surfaces were then converted into files for a CNC machine to do its thing. The machine milled large wood panels that became the surfaces for the tabletop and chair

As far as gold goes, I’m a sucker for it when it comes to costume jewelry and home accessories. I’d probably even go for a big gold dining table or headboard or something that made a bigger statement than the gold tray and the gold vase currently occupying space in my living room.
Something I had never even thought about until yesterday was gold walls. I mean it’s one thing to gold leaf a mirror or a picture frames – but what about the walls?! The thought seemed wild to me, but as I did some searching, I think I found a few good looks. However, I don’t think I love this look for a bedroom or living room, but perhaps for a smaller room, such as a powder room or closet. A powder room with gold leaf walls? Yes, please! And a glossy black toliet with a matching sink!
What do you think about gold walls? Do you love this look?

Dutch product design graduate Toon Welling designed the Bound Basics collection of simple furniture that is held together with nothing more than rope. Using what Buckminster Fuller termed “tensegrity” (short for tensional integrity), the rope creates the tension that is required to hold the pieces together sans nails or screws.

The Traces Tables by Italian designer Uto Balmoral for manufacturer Officinanove are clean in design but with that extra something that makes them unique. The legs are hand-milled steel and are not just for structural purposes, they add an asymmetrical design element to the tabletops. The table legs leave a “trace” of color on the tabletops, giving them their name. Each leg on the square and rectangular tables is 10cm off from the corners, which goes against the norm on most tables.
