Digging for Gold

Digging for a gold lamp, that is.

As I was searching for images for this post, I realized I have a serious addiction to gold lamps. There’s nothing wrong with that right? Guess that just means I need to put one in my home so I can stop continually blogging about them!

Anyway, I saw the first gold lamp on Bravo’s Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis. Do you watch that show? Last week was the first time I’ve tuned in and I wouldn’t mind watching it again this week. I’ve been dreaming about that lamp since I first saw it and I can’t find it anywhere. Except in that second image. I thought perhaps Bravo would have it sourced on their site, but I didn’t see anything.

Finally, I found the third lamp, a very similar style, on a Danish website which then led me to an US site. (Which told me that the lamp is over $2,000! Total bummer.) After that, I gave up my search and started looking for glossy gold spray paints to create my own version of this lamp.

My question is – what do you do in situations like this? Have you ever searched high and low for something you’ve seen on television or another outlet? It seems that with the Internet finding such things can be pretty attainable, but what happens when you don’t find what you’re looking for that easily or affordably? Do you then DIY it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Open Shelving: Love This Look?

There are several pros and cons to open shelving. To me, the most important pro is the way they open room with the most important con being the necessity to stay organized. Which is only a con if you are bothered by those kind of things – which I am!

They’re much easier and affordable to install if you’re looking for a change, and open shelving provides endless ways to style your dishes and accessories and to also add colors and textures to your kitchen. And if having shelving that’s all the way open is too much for you, you can add sliding glass doors or something similar, as in the last image above!

So, what are your thoughts on open shelving in the kitchen? Do you love this look?

Bird Poop Chandelier by Wyatt Little

I am cracking up over the title of this chandelier, called the Bird Poop Chandelier, made by Wyatt Little . Paying homage to his elementary schooldays, when he found himself standing below a beautiful Oak tree, shortly after being pooped on by a rather inconsiderate bird. Even though he says it was a regrettable moment, he took this particular memory and created something beautiful and lighthearted. Having been pooped on two separate occasions both while riding inside of a car , I can relate to the whimsy of this piece

$10 MALM facelift, huge impact

Materials: MALM four drawer unit, spray adhesive, inexpense engineer print, digital photo Description: I wanted to customize my boring MALM dresser and after searching for inspiration I found only fabric, wallpaper and wood trims being applied to the dresser fronts. I decided, as a photographer/mom who loves her kids’ faces/decorator obsessed with OVERSIZEness, that I should go with a photo. I knew that you could get super cheap larger than life black and whites at your local copy shop (staples, office depot)

Customise your Lack with Gesso

Materials: Lack table Description: I gessoed the table completely then applied torn bits of paper from magazines, ads, show tickets, bus tickets, letters, stamps, a few scraps of handmade papers I had lying around, junk mail, you name it, using a matt acrylic medium. After it was dry I applied a coat of satin varnish acrylic medium. See more of the gessoed Lack table . ~ Susan Avishai, Toronto

Cactus Seating by Maurizio Galante

Would you believe you can sit on that? The cactus-printed sofa and footrest from Maurizio Galante for Cerruti Baleri , might just be the only cacti that won’t stick you. Galante printed an image of the prickly, spiny plant onto bi-elastic fabric to create the Canapé Cactus sofa and the matching Tattoo footrest. While at first glance you might hesitate to sit, you will actually find a cushy place to rest. Who thought a cactus could be comfortable
