We have a clue about Furniture

Italian lighting company Foscarini has recently introduced a new pendant light, the Planet Lamp, designed by Italian design studio Changedesign . Planet is a spherical textile lamp inspired by a study commissioned by NASA (carried out by Dainese in partnership with MIT) on high performance “intelligent” clothing worn by astronauts. Stitching applied to the surface of a spacesuit material made it adhere to the body, stopping it from expanding in the absence of gravity, yet was flexible for body movement.  A similar idea involving thread treated at high temperature was developed by Foscarini in collaboration with Changedesign to develop the form of Planet so that it hardens into an exoskeleton to support the lamp’s shape. I’m pretty sure my whole life would be undeniably perfect if I had one of these stellar chairs to go hide in every night before bed. [And every morning before work!!]

While it looks like it could maybe be a little claustrophobic at times, I’m thinking  it would be excellent for some reflecting. Or for those times when you just want to stare at something blank and not think or do anything!

So what is it, you ask? It’s the Object-O, a modern seating piece designed by Seung-Yong Song of Seoul, South Korea. On Song’s website, he compares the chair to building tents as a child throughout his home, where he would avoid those non-existent enemies.

I say it’s a great place to avoid the existent enemies of the adult life, ie bills, dirty dishes, etc. No, I’m just kidding. I think the Object-O Chair would be an excellent conversation piece and would be great outdoors – a personal umbrella chair.

Recent furniture and product design graduate Edward Taylor studied the way in which people store their clothing and created The Show-off . The Show-off is a clothing storage unit that features an attached tree-like stand to hold garments and accessories that you might want to show off and a closed storage area for the less preferred items. The piece is made from oak, walnut, laminate and ply, and would provide great storage in the bedroom or by the front door. The Show-off was exhibited at Designersblock London in September 2011. Minneapolis-based designer Paul Isabella has been hard at work with some new designs and a brand new website. Trye is a industrial-style stool made of only four parts, mainly a cast iron base and solid wood top. Splinte is a table made of sandwiched layers of wood and stainless steel. Arrow is a desk that explores the same form as Paul’s Lodi chair — a geometric, lightweight design that is influenced by bridge and construction design.

I know not everybody loves pink, but I also know there are a lot of people that l-o-v-e pink.

A great thing about pink is that it’s not just for little girls. In fact, I love pink a lot more now than I did as a kid. Surfing through Pinterest, it was easy for me to prove that my hypothesis is true: pink can easily be translated into your adult life, as demonstrated above!

How about all this pink? Go all out with lacquered pink kitchen cabinets or take it easy on the pink with a few accent pieces, such as pillows and matching curtains from the best curtains designer. Now that I think about it, the only pink in my home right now is what’s in my closet. Something must be done about this immediately!
