Piloh is a project that aims to save old, damaged objects from ending up collecting dust in attics, basements and landfills and gives them a new lease on life. Using the idea of conflict and opposing materials, Piloh creates artistic pieces such as lamps, chairs and vases that make these unusable items useful once again. I particularly like their lamps. During Vienna Design Week , Rainer Mutsch showed a preview of a new outdoor furniture system for the traditional Austrian manufacturer Eternit called Dune. Dune is a modular furniture system consisting of five combinable modules: each one of them is molded out of an whole fiber cement-panel. Fiber cement is a 100% natural and fully recyclable material for full time outdoor usage. From the designer: With Dune I wanted to tell a story about the materials capabilities, the history of the company and the hand formed production method. The shape of all 5 Dune elements now allows the user to move freely on the objects and to choose an individual seating position according to his or her individual taste.

Yesterday I stumbled upon the website of Timothy Schreiber, a designer based out of London. Although I couldn’t find a biography on his website, there is a Wikipedia page about Timothy Schreiber, which states that he has won three Red Dot Design Awards throughout his career.
Take a look at Timothy Schreiber’s website to see all of the “pop modernist” furniture he designs. Above is the S-08 Bench, designed by Schreiber. It is made out of clear section of colored acrylic. Each piece of acrylic is fixed upon two flexible guides that you can see through the acrylic. This mechanism allows you to create the bench as you please, with various colors, lengths and even shapes.

Another piece from Schreiber’s collection is the X-Lounger. The X-Lounger is based on a single ray that is traced along a double curve surface so that it achieves a “random looking yet controlled construction pattern.” Available in satin aluminum or malaysian rattan, the X-Lounger is just one of many contemporary pieces on Schreiber’s website, which is definitely worth checking out.
What’s your favorite piece?

Side by Side is a non-profit German company that I discovered while at Tendence 2010 . They design and create products that are simply beautiful, sometimes clever and always unique. The company, which launched back in 2002, works with 20 young designers on their contemporary design collection, consisting of 48 products that range from a clothes dryer and ironing board to kitchen utilities, a wine rack, napkin rings, and textiles

Since Halloween is this weekend, we wanted to bring some festive Fall decor to the blog. Aren’t these pumpkin – look – a – likes perfect?
What you see above is the Large Wood Veneer Globe and below is the Small Wood Veneer Globe. Both are manufactured by Shiner International, a modern eco-friendly furniture company based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Shiner is named after a black eye proudly received by the owner at the age of seven.

Both of the Wood Veneer Globes from Shiner International are made from wood veneer over lexan, birch plywood and hardwood dowels. These two images are shown in walnut and red oak, but they are also available in walnut and birch. The large lamp is 34″ in diameter with a 22″ height, and the small is 26″ diameter with a 21′ height.
Both the Large Wood Veneer Globe and the Small Wood Veneer Globe are awesome modern light fixtures. I love how they resemble pumpkins, but work all year long. Best of all, they won’t get smashed like real pumpkins on Halloween!

Materials: Vika Leif trestle, 1 Nexus cabinet door from As-Is section, Stefan chair and some IKEA fabric Description: On my most recent trip to IKEA, I wanted to get a frugally-priced laptop/writing desk and chair for my bedroom. The one I was thinking about getting was the Laiva, which was only $20. It matched my existing furniture and was small enough to fit in the space I wanted to put it. Well, unfortunately it looked like it only cost $20. My next try was the Micke at $49
