Evergreen Collection from Pircher

Pircher , a company from Alto Adige specialized in wooden furniture for indoor and outdoor use, is participating for the first time at the Spoga + Gafa trade fair dedicated to outdoor life, which was held earlier this week. Designed by Alessandro Andreucci and Christian Hoisl for Pircher, the Evergreen collection is part of the ELIT line, a collection of contemporary and versatile furniture in the name of a fluidity of spaces and functions. Evergreen is inspired by the marine environment and characterized by its use of regatta braid — a kind of rope that is used for the mooring lines on boats. Evergreen is versatile and modular, and includes a two-seater sofa, a small padded chair, a coffee table and a daybed, which may be joined together using the rope module and the addition of mounted tables in wood.

The Bohémien Series

Living up to its name, the pieces within the Bohémien series have a free-spirit about them. Its as if the pieces stayed in one spot long enough to be tufted, but then wandered to the next spot, leaving their fabric flowing freely.

Designed by Castello Lagravinese for Busnelli, an Italian furniture company, the Bohémien series contains a sofa, chair and ottoman, as pictured above. Supported by solid wood and plywood, the spring seat and backing is made with elastic belts. The cushions are filled with polyurethane foam of different densities. Each of the items in the Bohémien series are available in either leather or fabric.

What do you think of the Bohémien series? Do you like the draped fabric or does it appear unfinished?

Nature/Data Exhibition at Industry Gallery

Cervo Chair This weekend, Industry Gallery will open Nature/Data , the first solo U.S. exhibition for New York-based Italian designer and architect Antonio Pio Saracino . The works in the exhibition are executed in plywood, metal, carbon fiber and synthetics and abstract from natural forms such as molecules, leaves, blossoms, and crystals. Nature/Data will feature eleven different chair designs, including two newly created for the exhibition: Riccio, a chair with a smooth interior and spiky exterior; and Molecular Bench, a baroque, steel-framed work covered with molecule-shaped recycled wool (both pictured below).

Gear Up

For the Gear Table from Ryan Matchett.

Manufactured for a hotel in Rwanda, the Gear Table is a chic contemporary table with clean, precise lines. The top is made out of MDF combined with walnut. The sharp shapes that create the gear pattern are cut with CNC technology. After the shape is in place, the wood is sealed with a walnut veneer.

You can see in the photo above that there are two pieces of wood cut into a gear shape and then offset for a dimensional effect. The base of the Gear Table is a mirror-polish stainless steel finish with adjustable rubber feet.

What do you think of the Gear Table?

Lazy Design?

OK, we’re not talking about lazy in the sense that the designers are lazy, rather that the pieces they create make us feel lazy. Or tired, or comfortable… Whatever words you choose to describe it. I Love Belgium spotted two great examples of lazy furnishings. Do you have any to add to the list? La Cambre student Linda Topic designed this bed — “Le Lit” (The Bed) — in collaboration with artist Antonin Bachet for French linen brand Descamps’ 150-year anniversary competition.
