Throwing A Party

I’m not throwing a party anytime soon, but browsing through the Hostess with the Mostess blog makes me want to throw one immediately! But of course, it would have to have all of the colorful and creative ideas and details that go into the parties seen on their website.

Have you ever thrown a party like this? By “this” I mean with one of these fabulous tables that have a cute banner, drinks with labels and a cute straw arranged on a matching tray, desserts or appetizers lined up also with cute labels attached to a toothpick. You can’t forget the flowers and a coordinating tablecloth, either!

The first party shown above is an 80s-themed Bridal Shower and the second is a graduation and birthday party with a navy and yellow chevron theme. If you click through to each party, you will see how all of the details come together from appetizers to drinks to desserts.

If you’ve thrown a party like this before, what are your tips for staying organized and bringing everything together – aside from hiring a party planner!?

Days Like These

It’s days like these that I really wish I was a 2.5 millionaire. Because then I could buy myself the most ridiculously beautifully modern white home shown above.

The house, the kitchen, the pool, the surroundings – everything about this modern home is gorgeous. But what I really love is that ceiling! I would love to see it in person – the effect it has on the home must be absolutely unbelievable.

Can you imagine the fun of decorating this home? I think I would need another million or so to complete that project! I would leave the walls all white and just bring in color with sleek, contemporary furniture. How would you decorate this home??

This modern home is for sale, and you can view the description and more photos here.

DIY Jewelry Organizer

There’s something about Mondays that make you want to get up and organize your entire life. Well, some Mondays I feel like that. Others I just don’t want to get out of bed!

Anyways, jewelry organization is something I constantly struggle with. I bought a tray once to organize everything but I have no idea where that even is right now. There are tons of easy and stylish organization DIYs out there – several which I’ve talked about here before. But this DIY over at IHeart Organizing is easier than easy and can be made using an old frame that needs to be repurposed – or if you have a frame where the glass has broken – this is a great way to put it to use without wasting it!

Click over to IHeart Organizing for the full tutorial – one thats very easy to follow! My fiance and I are at Lowes or Home Depot all the time – so I will make a note of it to do this and finally get my jewelry organized. I’m thinking I might make one for earrings and then another with fun push-pins to hold all my necklaces. What do you think of this DIY?

PANTONE SkinTone Guide

We all know PANTONE as being the #1 authority of all things color in the design industry and now they’ve released a new collection of real skin colors in their new PANTONE SkinTone Guide . The new guide was based off of “more than 1,000 human skin measurements” which lead to the 110 shades in the new library. Each large-sized swatch has perforation to allow for easy visual matching. Each color is assigned a four-digit PANTONE number where the first two reference the “hue or undertone of the skin” and the last two reflect the “tone or lightness and darkness of the skin.” This reminds us of Brazilian artist Angelica Dass’ Humanæ PANTONE/skin-matching project  - check that one out. Faucets

Faucets for bathrooms aren’t something I spend too much time thinking about, but I’m thinking maybe that should change. After all, sometimes it’s all about the details!

A modern faucet can really add to the style of the bathroom, especially when paired with a funky sink. What I like most about faucets, or taps as they are also called, is that it’s a really easy swap. You can swap out the tap in the sink and the shower for a coordinated and updated look. I might have to look into this over the weekend…how about you?

While I’m at it – I might look for a bowl-like sink as in the images above. What do you think about modern taps and sinks? If you’re interested in switching out your own, you can see different types of taps here.

Industrial design graduate Yunuén Hernández who hails from Mexico designed the Mo’Sphere , a molecular cooking appliance meant to aid the average cook in flavor exploration. After watching videos of famous chefs on TV and seeing their passion for cooking, Hernández discovered that molecular cooking was all about mixing ingredients to make food interesting and healthy. Delving into the world of senses and mixing them up with food flavors, she decided she wanted to enter the competition.
