Post-Holiday Blues

For many, today is the first day back to a full week of work after two weeks of holidays. Factor in all of the holiday preparation before that and all of the undecorating after, and it becomes a case of the post-holiday blues.

Some people I’ve talked to are happy that the hustle and bustle of the holidays are over, which I am too in some ways, but then I look at my empty living room where my tree was just hours ago and it is a bit depressing.

I did a quick search of these post-holiday blues to see what people were saying about it, and I came across a list of ten ways to beat the holiday blues. Many of them include volunteering and doing other good deeds, but one of them hit home to what we’ve been talking about here: decluttering!

As for myself, I’ve been feeling a little bummed the past few days and I think the holidays having come and gone may have something to do with it. That, and the fact that my Christmas tree was infested with gross bugs. Guess I better act on all the decluttering I’ve been talking about!

What about you? Are you feeling the post-holiday blues?

More Decluttering

I’m skipping another Weekly Six this week, due to all of the holidays, but they’ll be back in action again next week! And since decluttering is still on my mind from yesterday, I started thinking about all of the other areas in my life that I could declutter – and really, the only major thing aside from my home would be my car!!!!

My car doesn’t quite look the one above – does yours? Usually I keep my car pretty empty – but its the trunk that is the worst part. I’m starting to wish that I had a van – because I could keep it as organized as possible, thanks to this awesome van racking I found. This would actually be perfect for my fiance, who has a van for work. It’s always a mess and this would organize it right up!

Maybe I could fit some of those van racks in my trunk somehow. Until then, I’m going to plot my life decluttering plan – from home to my car to my fiance’s van!

Have you thought any more about decluttering your life?

De-Cluttering for the New Year

My parents have been living in London for the past five years, but have kept their home in the States for when they come back to visit, and when they come back for good. They had never cleaned out a majority of their junk – until yesterday. My mom called 1-800-JUNK and they went on a seriously impressive decluttering binge.

It’s amazing the stuff you find when you declutter your life. I had so much stuff there of my own that I hadn’t cleared out and I found myself wanting to keep many things, but I hadn’t seen them in 7+ years, so why bother? Once I came out of that mentality and into cleaning mode, it was much easier. I’m now motivated to declutter as much as I can in my own home.

I don’t want to make this a New Year’s resolution, but decluttering and getting organized is definitely something I want to do in the New Year, and for the rest of the years to come.

Have you decluttered lately? Or made any similar resolutions/commitments for the New Year?

Product Pick: Flock of Chairs

Hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s! The weather here in New Jersey is getting colder and colder, so today’s Product Pick is something that will warm us all right up!

The Flock of Chairs is designed by Melle Koot and is made from sheepskin found on sheep in the Netherlands. Each cover varies, so no two chairs are alike. The frame of each chair is made from a mixture of native elm, maple and oak woods.

I love the simplicity of these chairs that is amplified by the beautiful sheepskin. These would look great in my living room!

What do you think of the Flock of Chairs?

New Year’s Eve Tablescapes

Happy New Year’s Eve!

Are you staying in tonight or headed out? I’m headed out, although these festive tablescapes are making me wish I was staying in! Last year I did and we had a great time decorating, cooking and drinking champagne. Not that there won’t be champagne this year!

There are just so many little and exciting details that go into a New Year’s Eve tabletop that are easy – like using the party noisemakers as part of the centerpieces and adding clocks around the table. Anything with glitter and/or sequins works for New Year’s too! Do you see the last image has watches as napkin rings? How cute is that!?

If you’re staying in this year, what fun details are you incorporating into your night?

Sequins for NYE

In lieu of the holiday season, there won’t be a Weekly Six this week, but rather a round-up of sequins. Being that New Year’s Eve is on Monday, I’m in the mood for sequins. How about you?

Last night at the mall, I snagged up an adorable sequin dress and the gold sequin clutch above. So now I’m in the sequin mood more than ever! Wouldn’t it be fun to host a party with those sequin chairs or that sequin table cloth?

Or that sequin graffiti on the side of your house? Yes, please!

Will you be wearing or decorating with sequins this New Year’s Eve?

A New Lamp

A couple of months ago, the kind people over at AllModern sent me the awesome Artecnica Phrena Table Lamp you see above.

The base is a thin gold wire and the shade is a large and white, made of Tyvek construction – and it looks amazing in my bedroom! I haven’t decided if it will stay there, because my living room is full of gold and white accents and it would look even better there than where it is now. Initially, I wanted to put it on my desk, but that’s in the basement and this lamp is just too fabulous to hide!

In addition to this awesome lamp, AllModern has TONS of other home accessories and modern furniture if you’re in the post-holiday shopping mood!

What do you think of my new lamp? Any ideas for where I should put it?

Happy last Friday before Christmas! For those of you that celebrate, are you ready for the holiday or do you have some last minute shopping and/or baking to do? Whatever your plans may be, hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Here’s this week’s Weekly Six:

1 – Wishing I could recreate this chic, feminine bathroom in my own home.

2 – Inspiration for a romantic Christmas table – can never go wrong with tons of candles and this site has them – for cheap!

3 – Last year’s round-up of holiday baking – which I’ll be tackling tomorrow.

4 – Get the look of this wine glass by gluing some jewels and beads to the base – would also work great for candlesticks.

5 – Great list of ten champagnes to buy – for last minute gifts?

6 – After all this shopping, baking, and wrapping – I need a tub like this!

Have a great weekend!
