And since I’ve already made the standard apple pie, I thought it might be fun to mix in some savory apple recipes with the sweet ones and fly through those apples before they go bad. Thus, these recipes to keep on your radar all involve delicious apples!

100% Design has been going since 1994, almost a decade longer than the wider London Design Festival , which launched in 2003. But it’s as contemporary as ever with exhibitors selected by a panel of design experts to ensure quality and relevance. It’s primarily a trade show, but is open to the public on the last day. It’s a more mainstream event than the East London contingent, but offers a glimpse of the coming year’s trends and a chance to spot design stars of the future. Here are my top trends for 2012… I mentioned the trend for metal furniture, which almost looks as if it’s been drawn in 3d, in my post on Tent London , and this outdoor furniture from Kirv is another example.

British designer/silversmith Victoria Delaney introduced a brass version of her classic-meets-contemporary CandleStacks at the London Design Festival last week. A modern take on the sort of candlestick one might find on a table in New England, Delaney lines the spindles of her creations with interchangeable, lacquered timber shapes reminiscent of the beads on an abacus. If monochromatic is not your thing, Delaney also lines the brass with tactile wooden shapes in primary hues, which she intermingles with pieces in natural finishes.  The top and base are fabricated from soldered spun metal components

Furniture designers Patrick de Louwere and Bart Eijking of Studio Lawrence exhibited To Gather , an ingenious modular seating system at the London Design Festival last month in six new Kvadrat coverings. The British debut follows the product’s premier at the Interieur show in Belgium last year , where the Dutch duo put forth the forms upholstered in a dozen different shades of 100% wool felt.
