Babycotpod, a UK-based modern baby furniture company, has two cribs that are perfect for your contemporary baby. Above is the Metro Crib, a modern take on the traditional crib. Using natural materials, the Metro has colorful attributes that are perfect for a nursery. The frame is available in your choice of natural beech, dark wood or white wood.

Although not yet available for purchase, the Babycotpod website says that Cascara will be ready for purchase sooner than later. As you can see in the image above, the Cascara is a contemporary bassinet. The Cascara is handmade and available in a large variety of colors to choose from.

European kitchen company Aster Cucine has collaborated with American design firm workshop/apd on a new kitchen line, Timeline . Timeline is a sleek and modern series that will blend in well in any modern space, but also works for traditional homes as well. Drawing on the history of craftsmanship and artisans of centuries past, Matthew Berman and Andrew Kotchen, design principals at workshop/apd, created a kitchen collection with a slightly old world look and feel for contemporary life. The collection goes beyond beautiful cabinetry: it also includes countertops and backsplash accents in the finest selection of materials including Venetian ceruse (a whitening compound used in the 16th century on human skin as well as cabinetry) applied to white oak; wire mesh inspired by French country cabinets, antique mirror glass; oxidized metal, weathered steel, and bronzed glass.

Hong Kong designer Kitmen Keung has created a transformable foam block for Belgium design brand Sixinch with only two cuts. Splitting a raw rectangular foam block with only two L-shaped cut lines, Dual Cut is a transformable furniture piece that employs the simplest production processes true to the materials in use with minimal wastage. It features two ergonomically comfortable seat back angle options of 6° and 23°, and the multi-formation ability to form a one seater with a side table, a chaise lounge or a corner table. It also easily forms a neat, compact parcel for convenient storage and transportation.

Tim Thaler wanted to maximize the floor space in his kitchen, but also needed a solution for an island. How could he have both? By hiding the island in the floor. Tim’s island comes up and down with the touch of a button on his iPhone — there’s an app for that.

The Plama Marble Run 2D by Bernhard Burkard is a toy for kids and adults alike. Built using 12 magnetic planes in different simple shapes and colors on a magnetic wall, it allows the user to create thousands of possible paths that the marble can take. While not in use, it can act as abstract wall art. A game such as Plama can also inspire young children to be more creative or develop their logical thinking skills while creating a marble run

My lovely friend Susan Serra (remember her great article on 2011 kitchen trends ?) is launching her new line of Scandinavian-inspired kitchen furniture called Bornholm Kitchen this week at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show . Along with her daughter, Kelly Serra Donovan, Susan has created a new kitchen furnishings line inspired by the spirit of their ancestral birthplace; authentically Scandinavian, yet handcrafted in the US. Bornholm is a kitchen that promotes social interaction — it’s freestanding design is perfect for today’s open floorplans. It’s the “little black dress” where the accessories make it your own.
