It’s reaching the high 80s in the NYC area today. That is ridiculously warm for this time of year! So, instead of sitting at my desk I’ll be wishing that I was sitting in one of those lounge chairs at that beautiful pool…..

Sipping on one of these bad boys. Wouldn’t this Monday be perfect with a modern pool and a strawberry margarita? (Or five!?)
Is it this hot in your neck of the woods?

For this week’s Friday Five we tapped New Zealand-based furniture and lighting designer David Trubridge . Trubridge is trained in Naval Architecture (or boat design), has worked as a forester, and taught himself how to create furniture. He presented his inspiration in terms of the five elements, along with gorgeous landscape photographs he took himself. Not coincidentally, this also happens to be the structure of the book he is writing about his life and design. 1. Earth: Wilderness The Earth is grounding.

D-vision has organized a group exhibition during Salone in Milan called Soft Comfort that focuses on pieces that invite you to sit on them with the promise of comfort. A BOOV Although what is comfortable might differ from person to person, overall, we can all agree that comfort makes us feel at home, and at rest. Certain elements are directly related to comfort such as sitting angle, seat softness and shape.

A lamp made of spoons ? Sure, why not!? UK-based designer Clive Roddy designed this lamp with a lampshade made of spoons. Inspired by pinecones (clever!) when took a visit to Yosemite National Park, Roddy thought he’d try to translate it into a lamp with 115 stainless steel desert spoons. The tripod oak base acts as a pedestal for the sculpture that sits atop it

Materials: Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, Drill, Knobs, Furniture Wax Description: I took a dark brown Malm 6 drawer dresser from modern and plain to full of character and charm. I started by making a template of the drawer front out of some craft paper and marking where I wanted the holes. I went with 5 1/2 inches from each end. After drilling all of the holes I painted the whole dresser and all of the drawers with some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in the color Napoleonic Blue.

Montreal-based design company La Firme sees the beauty in an ordinary BBQ propane tank . Why should it be hidden away? They decided to create a lamp out of it as a reminder about the evolution of lighting and of our relationship with fuels. Photos by Marie-Élaine Benoit and Jonathan Nicol
